In the 19th century, the popular nativity scenes in the area are animated by somewhat “clumsy” statuettes, renamed "macaques", these figures over time become a characteristic of the popular Albisole nativity scene. The "figurines" come to life from plaster molds, to which arms and legs are added and decorated to represent all the characters of the nativity scene of San Francesco, quickly becoming a local tradition handed down over time. It is precisely the statutes within everyone's reach that best represent a ceramic tradition that was not only made up of important artistic circles of international fame but was inherent in the community, understood and appreciated in its various forms. A form of "raw" ceramic capable of becoming a tradition that resists time and the expression of artists and non-artists that is still appreciated today and is renewed every year at Christmas.
